The Trump administration informed state education departments on June 30 that it is defying Congress and immediately withholding $6.8 billion in federal K-12 education funds—a devastating blow to public schools across the nation.

These were congressionally approved, federal education funding for the upcoming 2025 school year. In Texas, the funding being held is $738,537,697! States were expecting to receive roughly the same amount as Congress had approved for federal fiscal year 2024.

Here is how it affects Texas:

  • Title I-C $20,614,567
  • Title II-A $242,562,747
  • Title III-A $139,856,554
  • Title IV-A $131,584,643
  • Title IV-B $126,193,844
  • Adult Basic and Literacy Education $68,977,899
  • Adult Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education $8,747,443

Grand Total being withheld from Texas: $738,537,697

Please write or call your US representative to ask that these federal K-12 education funds be released to fully restore the funding for programs our Texas schools and communities rely on.

Title programs, such as, II-A and III-A fund the backbone of what schools do—teacher development, student supports, after-school programs, services for English learners, and migrant students. These aren’t luxuries; they are lifelines. Without them, schools are being forced to cut staff, cancel programs, and tell students we cannot help them.

Our students can’t afford delays, and teachers cannot do their jobs without the resources Congress promised.

Take action now. Tell Congress to demand the immediate release of these funds. Every day of delay means more programs shut down and more students left behind.
