Virtual Event
We are changemakers in our community and country. The Lubbock Betty Anderson Branch of AAUW presents engaging programs on topics such as women’s healthcare, open and fair elections, pay equity, and legal advocacy.
Throughout the decades, the Lubbock Betty Anderson Branch of AAUW has awarded thousands of dollars in educational scholarships to students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including those returning to school after a break in their pursuit of a college degree.
The branch has supported projects such as child care centers, early childhood education, a juvenile detention center (to remove children from the adult jails), programs that encouraged girls to experience science, math, and engineering, and a Mother-Daughter program that introduced young girls and their mothers to the possibilities of a college education.
Recently, our branch has celebrated Women’s Equality Day with august speakers such as Melodia Gutierrez, Texas Director of the Human Rights Campaign, and Mary Ann Lawson, trustee of the LISD board. The branch co-sponsored with the League of Women Voters and TTU Public Media both an Education Town Hall with public figures knowledgeable on the topic, including Senator Perry, and Mayoral Debates, continuing our past decadal involvement in supporting public debates.
During the pandemic the branch sponsored over a dozen female college students to attend the AAUW National Conference of College Student Leaders by zoom and continued our sponsorship once the meetings were held in person.
Our newest community support project is the school store project at Dunbar Preparatory Academy in Lubbock which is designed to encourage academic performance and good behavior through a point system that is used to purchase items at the store.
Being a member of AAUW Lubbock Betty Anderson Branch makes our powerful voice even louder on critical issues affecting women and girls.
