Call to Action on SB 37

Please take action to ask your legislators to vote against SB 37 that will limit faculty’s ability to teach about race, history and inequality. This bill is much like the Florida Stop the Woke bill that was passed a few years ago.

They would set up a mechanism that people could file complaints about course content, ask institutions to monitor the content of courses and have a mechanism to remove programs that are not “foundational”.

This is bad for Texas Tech, bad for faculty, and politicizes higher education.

Please consider taking some of the actions listed below.

As of May 12, 2025, SB 37 is pending in the House Committee on Higher Education.

Ask Friends, Family, and Colleagues in these Districts to Contact their Rep

Reach out to people in the following areas of Texas. The following representatives on the House Higher Ed Comm. are asking to hear more feedback on SB 37 from people in their districts.  Please be as polite and professional as possible when talking with them.

  • Georgetown — Rep. Terry Wilson (R) House District 20

How to Reach out to Colleagues

If you’re using work email addresses at a public community college, university, or health institution, you’ll need to be careful not to take a stance for or against the bill.  You can send factual info about SB 37 (e.g. pulled from our blog post) and ask people to contact you from their personal email address to your personal email address for follow-up.  Here are several news stories you could include:
